DIARY OF A GIRL-NEXT-DOOR HEAVY METAL NOVELIST

April 24, 2005
Two nights ago, I dreamt that I called Roger Daltrey to let him know that my book was available for pre-orders. He was excited and chatty and we gushed about the fun times we had when we met each other. Last night, I dreamt about the Cincinnati KISSfest. In this scenario, I sat at my vendor table humiliated and frightened because no one bought a single book. Needless to say, I was nervous when I set up shop this morning.

My table was right next to Bruce Kulick's (score!), so I had lots of traffic passing my table, but no buyers until...Tabitha. Beautiful Tabitha. She purchased the first signed copy of Won't Get Fooled Again. Then came Tony, then Andria, then even more readers! Suddenly, I was not only an author (anyone can write a book, right?), I was a VIABLE author!

As my confidence grew, I ventured out of just the sales mode. I asked some key members of the KISS world to write review blurbs for the front page of my book. Not only did they consider it, one wrote me a review quote on the spot! Then, toward the end of the day, a retailer approached me and said he would need to place an order for 100 books to sell on his website!!! Holy vindication!

My two non-KISS-related friends, Cheryl and Andy, came just as the bands started, so I could share what I consider the most joyful part of my life with them. And Joe... wonderful Joe. We laughed and schemed and sold our asses off. By the end of the expo, we had people asking to pose for pictures with him. I realized very quickly how vital he is to the KISSfiction operation.

To Bruce, Gene, Warren, Peter, Joe, Lisa S, Bill Starkey, SSG, Mr. Speed, and all the people who helped my dream not come true today, I thank you. Special praises to Allen and Karen Mullins who organized this expo and made me feel like not only a star, but a member of the family.

I'm exhausted. Sweet dreams.

I owe lots of people emails today, but I can barely keep my eyes open. All I want to do is drift off and relive the Cincinnati experience one more time. I think I'm going to do thaaaaaaaaaaa............................

I'm in the news! The newspaper ran a story (and a hot picture) on the front page of the local section. People at my day job were all agog. Tomorrow is the big film fest. It's quite possible this will be the height of my celebrity. But not likely, suckers. I'm not going down until I've paid off my mortgage.

But, if I am unrecognized, unloved, unworthy... I can still look back at this posting from a KISS fan site. It's an excerpt from a long review of the Cincinnati KISS Expo:

The best experience for me of the weekend was getting to meet Colette Shaw. This is the sweetest person to have ever walked the earth. And, those spiked heels GRRRRRRRR . She is just one of those cuties that you just wanna put in your pocket and carry around with you everywhere!

I love the KISS community!!!!!!!!!!

Murphy's Law ruled the night. My concert ran long, and by the time I got to the film fest, I learned that none of the 3 DVDs of "Living the Fantasy" worked. One of the disks was the same one Joe and I played in Cincy for 8 hours straight with no problems. Oh, well. We made a few book sales and I got a kiss of another kind at the end of the night.

Tomorrow is a big announcement.(continue)
