I'm taking a vacation day to relax and get focused. I need to finish
writing the second installment of my article
series for KISStorySource.com.
If I can nail that thing down, I think my motivation in other areas
will start to pop. I think I need to take my laptop someplace else so
I can crack through my writer's block.
My copy of Gene
Simmons's new solo album arrived yesterday. I'm looking forward
to spending some quality time with it.

Day 3 of playing hooky from work. Thank goodness. I'm just starting
to regain my focus. I took care of some book/bank errands and did a
little work on my arms. My goal is for someone to walk up to me on the
street and say, "Excuse me, are you David
Robinson?"
Yesterday had a small KISS
theme. I dined with the Docu-man
for what I fear is the last time in a long, long time. He's heading
back to NYC soon to make his way in the world. I
made hardcore progress on my Paul Stanley article
yesterday, then I celebrated by singing a wretched but heartfelt rendition
of "Detroit Rock City" at karaoke.
It's 1 o'clock. I gotta
rock. I'm going to listen to ***hole
one more time before I dream about bookstardom.

I have to admit that I don't keep up with the KISS guys' individual
projects. I appreciate the solo albums of 1978, but I don't own any
Frehley's Comet or Peter Criss albums. Imagine my surprise, then, that
I am in love with ***hole.
Is it a good CD? I'm assuming the critics will say no. Is it like Gene
Simmons (sexy as hell even though you can't figure out why)? A resounding
yes from this camp. I also love when a line from an article I wrote
a few years ago turns up in his lyrics. "Cream
of the crap." That's just
great writing, thankyouverymuch.
I spent today formatting.
What is formatting? I wish I didn't know because it's not fun. All of
my manuscripts to date have been in Microsoft Word, which thinks it's
making things easier for you by predicting which functions you want
to use (such as indenting paragraphs) doing it for you. To date, that's
been fine, in terms of basic editing, but apparently it mucks everything
up when it's going to be used for its larger cosmic purpose. I suppose,
to be more accurate, I spent today UNformatting. In better news, I
Leia Hartley finished my her second Ass
article.
How on earth did I not mention
yesterday that I upgraded my tickets to the Florida KISS concert I'm
going to see next month? My siblings deserve to see the guys without
having to use binoculars. I burned CDs for them yesterday so they could
learn the words to a lot of the songs in the set list, and I made a
special CD cover for my brother, Paul.

The fire burns in my belly once again. I worked diligently on my formatting
and the letter to the KISS people that will seal my fate. With that
out of the way, I think this week, I can get back to the creative stuff.
I'm dangerously close to being done with rewrites, which is why the
formatting thing will be important. I've done desktop publishing, but
apparently, my manuscript document has to be imported into a program
that could mess it up if it's not exactly right.
Back in October, people
laughed at me when I picked Detroit as my new NBA team of choice. They
weren't laughing so hard tonight when the Pistons went up 3-1 against
the Lakers in the finals. I watched the first part of the game while
I was getting it on with Mr. Nasium. If Gym and I spend enough time
together, I think I might get Ben Wallace arms. Woo hoo! In the humidity
of summer, I almost have his signature
hairdo.

I'm still burnin'. Tonight, I worked hard on my permission letter. My
first step in the process will be to get the lyrics. That's easy but
perhaps costly. Once that's done, fictionalization and character development.
I'm so nervous about that part I could hardly bring myself to write
the letter.
But I did.

Ya gotta lose your mind in the Pistons' city tonight. Their championship
just makes me feel all the more confident in my KISSfiction work. Smarty
Jones couldn't pull off the underdog victory, but Larry Brown and I
will show the world how playing the right way has its rewards. And just
in case, Gym is still helping me with my Ben
Wallace arms. (continue)
