DIARY
OF A GIRL-NEXT-DOOR HEAVY METAL NOVELIST
June
7, 2005
I have some serious
writing to do in my private diary this week. It's good enough to fill
a future book, with its rock stars, wannabe rock stars, former flames,
future flames... but it won't see the light of day over here.
And, really... have you
bought the first book yet? What are you waiting for? How can you help
me by writing a review at BarnesandNoble.com
if you haven't read the greatest rock & roll romance suspense novel
of the summer? Sheesh.

If I owe you an email, please forgive me. I'm swamped. Relay
for Life is coming up this weekend, and I've actually had a social
life of late. Imagine! I sold two books tonight at music trivia, so
I'm at least trying to multitask. Right now, it's time for bed.

So, I'm getting all dolled up to go to karaoke, and the phone rings.
I'd already been interrupted by a call once while I was getting ready
and I was just about to walk out the door. Sheesh. Can't people just
leave me alone on my one night a week of having a life?! For some reason,
I answered anyway.
...and it was a guy from
KISS.

I just finished a 24-hour walkathon. I'm having a difficult time keeping
my eyes open or remembering what day it is. I also have a new respect
for Paul Stanley who hopped around on stage like a jumping bean while
his hip was killing him. I have a lot to be excited about, as I helped
Lancaster raise over $900,000. Yeah, yeah, I realize that no matter
what I write now about the 9th, it could only be an anticlimax, but
I'm going to postpone the inevitable letdown (although it's still a
thrill for me!) until tomorrow. Yay, KISS; Boo, cancer.
If you really need a KISSfic
fix, you can check out the recent additions to my "KISSfiction
in the News" section.

Tomorrow, I leave for L.A. On my itinerary, Daniel
MacKenzie, Batlord and Bob
Kulick. I can't think of three more different people, but I'm excited
to see/hear all of them.Bob is the big bro to Bruce
Kulick, who played lead guitar for KISS for 12 years and who just
happened to call me a few nights ago to tell me that he's a fan of my
passion, creativity, and (most importantly) my book. Won't
Get Fooled Again. He's been reading it while on the road, and
he's going to provide a review quote for the first page of the next
press run. That was some hot news to kick off my Cali vacation.
It's 12:30 a.m.. I guess
I should start packing.

Man, do I hate cancer, except perhaps it helped me maintain my stamina
until 1:00 a.m. Pacific Standard Time. No, that was actually the 24-hour
walkathon which messed up my internal clock. I still hate cancer. But
I love Scorpio. He picked me up tonight and took me to live band karaoke,
Hollywood style. I chose my song carefully and was the first person
to sing. Just like a dream, I was discovered!!! By a bunch of drunk
guys, but for some people, that would be a dream.
Scorpio
and I drove by a lot of our past, and I thought about how much has happened
over the years between young love and wise friendship. We've both taken
huge strides toward our life fantasies, especially over the past couple
years, and I know we're on paths of success. Yay for Memory Lane.

I spent some time in the sunshine typing out responses to interview
questions for a website called Dean's
Planet. It's a fun celeb-filled paradise where you can look at things
like movie stars whose breasts accidentally popped out of their dresses.
Yeah, I've peeked. On Friday, I'm going to see Bob Kulick's studio.
My next task will be to take a look at my book quotes to see if they
need tweaking.
I missed Daniel
MacKenzie last night, but Scorpio
and I spent lots of time talking about politics, so I felt a little
better.

Rock star fantasies are part of my everyday routine. Not everyday do
I get to hang out in the studio where Paul Stanley recorded part of
his highly anticipated solo CD. I listened to the recording of an upcoming
Cher tribute album, and imagined myself transformed from a lame karaoke
"Shoop Shoop" singer to a real crooner. Tonight, they were
recording backing tracks for Sheila E's version of "It's in His
Kiss." I missed meeting the woman who was the inspiration for my
1986 Halloween costume by one day. Bob K. wasn't feeling well tonight,
so I went to dinner with the real singer, with whom I struck up a real
friendship. It's not always a bad thing when fantasies transform to
real life.

I'm leaving on a jet plane. Don't know when I'll be back again, but
I suspect it might be soon. California needs Won't
Get Fooled Again. In a world of earthquakes, superficiality,
rock stars and fun, I can't think of a better fit. (continue)
