KISSfiction

Here's a glimpse into my non-KISS life (if such a thing exists).

While I am a huge fan of Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer filling some pretty big platform boots, I can't say that I'd ever want to see my brother Paul replace Mr. Stanley. I love his hound dog style, but my KISS fantasies would never be the same.

I can't necessarily say that my family rocks & rolls all night, but we all belong to a similar party. Here are my brother, cousin and sister/editor/caterer at a Florida celebration.

My dad was also my school superintendent when I was growing up. Is it any wonder I ended up with authority issues and a fascination with heavy metal? Luckily, I also had a magnificent role model who showed me that visionary leadership and risk taking could change the world.

Symphonic Wind Ensemble challenges me to forget everything in the world except the music. As a drummer, I live for concerts that feature loud, bombastic pieces that give the audience the same exhilaration as a KISS show. Any part of me that's shy or inhibited disappears as soon as the conductor raises his baton.

I'm not sure how it happened, but I live out some of my rock & roll fantasies every Thursday night at a local karaoke bar. From the look on my friend Mike's face, you can get an idea of my talent level. I'm pretty sure that's why all the demos I send Gene Simmons come back with a big frownie face.

My favorite friends at my favorite holiday. This year, we all dressed as Batman villains. We're still not sure who Ian (the hockey guy) was supposed to be, but we appreciated his creativity.

Did I mistakenly say my family doesn't rock & roll all night and party everyday? I must have forgotten our New Year's Eve ritual -- the "Shaw Cup" Domino Championship. The Shaws are fiercely competitive, and I'd challenge even the hardest rockers to keep up with us.
