of a Girl-Next-Door Heavy Metal Novelist September 18, 2002 I sent my first press release-ish correspondence tonight to a publication called Baltimore City Paper. I told them I'm coming to their town in a few weeks for a KISS Convention and I'd love to give them my mild-mannered perspective of the expo. Friday is my goal date for sending out my first set of Gene and Howard letters. I need sleep! I've started stuttering and blanking out in the middle of sentences from what I must assume is exhaustion. I keep taking on music commitments on top of the day job, and I want to give the BF and friends ample attention... I'm seriously thinking about hiring someone to help me. Any takers? You could have a cool moniker in the KISSfiction world! Someone at work today emailed me and mentioned something about his "day job" (I think he used the quotes and everything). It was a wonderfully cool reference to my site. The same person told me recently that it's weird seeing me and realizing that he knows what I was up to the night before because of my diary. Sometimes friends interrupt me when I'm telling stories because they've already read the tales in the journal. I don't know if it's good or bad. Just interesting. I'm not going to type in the links section at the bottom of this entry. So there. Time for sleep. September 19, 2002 I've been thinking that this journal needs a little drama while I wait for Gene Simmons to call with a proposition. Stay tuned, cuz I think book III is about to write itself. Hey, I totally forgot... I got a non-rejection letter this week. Frankly, I'm not all that excited about it. I need to find agents who wants me as much as I want them. Let the self-promotion bandwagon continue! Speaking of which, did you hear George W. Bush plugging my book this week? Some people are calling it a flub, but I think he engineered a way to subliminally put my book title in the minds of millions. Click here to listen to the excerpt from his Won't Get Fooled Again speech. Tomorrow, I'm playing hookie from the day job to catch up on sleep and make my first trip to the mailbox with my Gene and Howard letters. I talked informally today with a fellow about paying him to do some KISSfiction work for me. He was sitting on a motorcycle while we spoke. That's probably a good omen for a heavy metal novelist, huh? September 20, 2002 The KISSfiction factory cranked out 5 letters today. I didn't realize how long it would take, but it was worth the time. I designed envelopes with my picture on them, and stuffed them with letters and copies of the article from the College Reporter. Tomorrow (if I remember), I'll have one of my siblings take a picture of me as I drop the letters into a mailbox. What would a writer's life be without drama? The BF will be referred to as the XBF for a bit of time. Sorry, you'll have to wait for book III for the carefully disguised fictionalized account (which according to its well-crafted disclaimer will have nothing at all to do with any real-life events). What that means is, if you want the scoop, you have to help me get books I & II published. I'm picking up my sister/editor and brother tomorrow for a weekend at Dad's. In case you missed diary entries from the end of July/early August, the last time my sister visited, we had an adventure that will fill my second novel. I hope she's ready for more fun. Ever wonder what I do in my day job? Loyal reader, Sara Sprunk, sends us this depiction: Click here. September 21, 2002 Letters are now enroute to Gene Simmons and Howard Stern. My father, sister/editor and brother were enlisted for a special mailing ceremony. My brother, despite his lackadaisical support of the website now wants a character name. "Padre Paul" is his suggestion. He thinks he could stir up controversy with the religious right. My book is SOOOO rated P.G. it would be quite an effort. I've entered phase one of the XBF confusion: country music. (continued) |
