of a Girl-Next-Door Heavy Metal Novelist September 29, 2002 The train barrels ahead. I woke up this morning and tried to do as much KISSfiction work as possible in my pajamas. That's been the tradition since this project began, and I love it because it doesn't feel like work. I laid in bed and typed up email messages to a number of Baltimore-area newspapers to see if they'd come interview me while I'm at the KISS Convention. After that I typed up an Interview Release Form to be signed by anyone in the documentary. I emailed the filmmaker to tell him I'd rethought my original concept, and I wondered if he'd find it easier to make a movie about how a seemingly normal person could become a KISS freak. I made a birthday packet for the XBF while I took a break from the busywork, then got back to the KISSfiction stuff. I tested my business card template, and I loved the results, so I sent back-up copies of all of the forms, letters, fliers, etc. that I've been working on to my day job so I won't lose anything if my computer crashes. After all that, I still didn't want to get out of my pjs, so I allowed myself a nap. When I woke up, I had KISSfiction email! Trivia teammate and webmaster of such outstanding works as www.damionwolfe.com and the XBF website, Mike Horn, let me know that my Day in the Life page had some pixel problems... and that he'd fixed them for me! I love his "Ask not what KISSfiction can do for you..." attitude. Thanks, Mike! As for the other message, oy, where to begin? A group of the KISSfiction kult got together to brainstorm ideas for my site. Tickers of hot journal updates, a weekly email newsletter... All wonderful and inspired, and worthy of consideration. I really have to think about this stuff. I promised myself when I started this webpage that the site would not receive more attention than the novel - which still needs a publisher. If I can offer more, I'll be happy to heed the advice of the fans. In the meantime, know that I took the ideas seriously and I love all suggestions. ...and since you want more pictures, here's one from Friday, when I mailed my latest batch of Gene/Howard letters. September 30, 2002 Medium sized news! If you search for "colette shaw" on Google.com or Yahoo.com, KISSfiction is the #1 thing that pops up. I'm not really sure how all of that works. I didn't submit my site to either one of those engines, but they found me. A few months ago, the same thing happened, then they dropped me. It's a fickle dot.com world. I set a request to the film department at the day job to see about using a camera. I didn't receive a rejection, but the person in charge said he had concerns (and who wouldn't?). I let him know that someone who actually knows what he's doing will operate the equipment, and now I'm waiting to hear back. Tonight, I took my business cards in to the publishing place I went to on Saturday. I have to wait two days to pick them up, but the sample copy the clerk showed me was way cool! I told her to make 300. I then purchased the supplies for the road crew's frontstage passes. We are going to look SO COOL in Baltimore! I got an email back from one of the MD newspapers. They love my idea, but are located in Annapolis. Oops. Made plans to get together with Secret Reader over the weekend. It possible, I'd like to take a copy of my edited manuscript to Baltimore with me. I'm not sure why, but best to be prepared. I've heard there might be a demand for KISSfiction shirts. True? Would anyone out there like to design one? Jared? Matt? Jared? Matt? I took a stab at it, but it's just not happening for me. October 1, 2002 It's a go! We have full permission now to film the documentary in Baltimore. The filmmaker offered co-ownership today, which is excellent. He's doing homework about KISS fans right now. I wish I could see his face. This is his first connection to the KISS world, and I'm sure he's amused and a little frightened. I have to write up sample interview questions for him. For some reason that seems intimidating to me. I know as soon as I tell him "You should probably ask me X," I'll spend all my time in my car and shower practicing how to respond to X. I want to be prepared, but not a robot or one of those people who flakes out when the camera rolls. I sent a press release tonight to KISSasylum.com to tell them about the filming. As always, I got nervous about sending it, then I imagined the wrath of International Jill and others at my approach/avoidance syndrome. I clicked "send" It should be illegal to have business cards as cool as mine. I picked them up tonight, and couldn't help giggling to the cashier. Then I told him to visit my website. Another mortgage check written for one measly month. The goal remains the same: pay off home with Won't Get Fooled Again. October 2, 2002 If you're keeping score at home, Curtis will now be referred to as the QBF. Let's hope for a happy ending to this story. KISSfiction is a sucker for a good old fashioned romantic ending to book III. I typed up some sample interview questions for the rockumentary and finished creating front stage passes. I can't wait to print them up. My business cards are a big hit. As me for one, as I'd LOVE to run out. (continued) |
